Lauren Whiteside is an Emergency Medicine physician at the University of Washington working clinically at Harborview Medical Center which is a large academic hospital in Seattle. Lauren’s research area focuses on the development and implementation of health-system interventions for patients in the ED that misuse prescription opioids. Additionally, she has worked as a co-investigator in a large trial evaluating the effectiveness of collaborative care in acute care settings for PTSD. In August, 2015 Lauren received a NIDA K23 entitled ‘A longitudinal collaborative care model for patients with prescription opioid misuse utilizing the Emergency Department for care’ which will adapt existing collaborative care models for the ED setting to specifically target prescription opioid misuse by decreasing care fragmentation thus improving transitions in care. Prior to working at the University of Washington, Lauren completed her Emergency Medicine residency and a NIAAA T32 in substance use at the University of Michigan.
