Sonya Gabrielian, MD, MPH, is a psychiatrist and health services researcher at the VA Greater Los Angeles (VAGLA). She co-leads the Homelessness Strategic Priority Area at the VAGLA Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation, & Policy. She is also an investigator in the Health Services Unit of the Desert Pacific Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center, an Affiliated Researcher at the National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Her work aims to improving housing retention and community functioning among homeless adults with serious mental illness.
Dr. Gabrielian is a VA HS&RD Career Development Awardee focused on implementation approaches to enhance care for homeless persons receiving care within VA. The IRI fellowship is a critical training component of her Career Award. Dr. Gabrielian is engaged in several partnered research projects that aim to tailor, implement, and evaluate evidence-based based practices that improve outcomes in VA’s homeless program. She is also involved in several quality improvement initiatives within VAGLA’s homeless program, where she also works as a practicing psychiatrist.
